How to convert TXT to SRT
- Drop in your .txt file One line per subtitle cue works best — or paste the text.
- Lines become timed cues If your lines start with timestamps (
[00:01:23],00:01:23,1:23.5…) they are kept as cue starts; otherwise cues are laid out sequentially from your start offset, each lasting your chosen seconds. - Download your .srt Numbered, timed cues — then fine-tune against the video in any editor.
How the timing is generated
Plain text carries no timing information, so the converter has to synthesize it — honestly. Timestamped text: lines that begin with a timestamp keep it as the cue's start time, and the next timestamp ends the cue. Untimed text: cues run back-to-back from your start offset, each open for your chosen duration (3 seconds by default — comfortable reading pace for a full-width line). Treat the result as a draft timeline and nudge it against the video; the resync tool shifts a finished track in one pass.
[00:00:01] This line keeps its timestamp. [00:00:04] So does this one. Plain lines without timestamps run at your seconds-per-line pace.
When is TXT→SRT useful?
Script read-throughs you want on screen, lyric sheets, lecture notes to layer over a recording, translated line lists waiting for timing — anywhere the words exist but the subtitles don't yet. Generate the draft here, then correct timing visually. Need the reverse? SRT to TXT strips timing back out.
Got a draft timeline that drifts?
Generated timing is a starting point — overlaps, gaps and drift show up once it meets the video.

Is the generated timing accurate?
It is real, but synthesized: untimed lines get even spacing at your chosen duration; timestamped lines are placed exactly. Sync it against the video and adjust — that final pass is unavoidable when the source had no timing.
Which timestamp formats are recognized?
Line-leading stamps in brackets or bare: [00:01:23], 00:01:23, 0:01:23.500, 01:23,5 and seconds like 83.5. Recognized stamps are stripped from the visible text.
What if my text isn't one line per cue?
Each non-empty line becomes one cue. Join sentences you want shown together onto a single line before converting — or convert as-is and merge cues in an editor.
